DESCRIPTION:CCWA is looking for internationally minded individuals and families to host international exchange participants for dinner on March 11. \nParticipants are in Cleveland on an exchange project called NGO Management. Participants are from ten different countries from around the world. This project is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Interantional Visitors Leadership Program. \nDinner Hosting FAQ \nNo need for an elaborate multi-course meal. Dinner does not need to be expensive and can be done as easily as you’d like. A potluck or a catered meal are also possibilities. Schedule pending\, a weekend brunch or lunch may also be arranged.\nThe more the merrier. You’re welcome to invite family members or friends to help welcome your international guests.\nWho’s coming to dinner? Groups range from 2 – 5 visitors—an interpreter may be included\, too. Background information will be provided typically one week in advance. This includes visitor name\, profession\, and dietary restrictions. \nSign me up! SUMMARY:American Leadership Youth Exchange for Senegal
DESCRIPTION:CCWA will host a group of 12 students (ages 17-19) from Senegal through the American Leadership Exchange Program (ALEX) sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the American Councils for International Exchange. The program will focus on leadership development and environmentalism and will take place October 29th – November 6th\, 2022. We are seeking Home Hosts who can welcome 1-2 students into their home from October 29th – November 6th.  \nFor interested hosts: Each student must have their own bed\, though they may share a room with a student of the same gender. (Air mattresses are not permitted.) We ask that students be provided breakfast foods and that they be included in family meals in the evening. During the day on weekdays\, students will be engaged in educational programming\, and transportation and lunches will be provided by CCWA. Students have weekend days and most evenings free to spend time with their host families. SUMMARY:Jóvenes en Acción - Mexico Youth Virtual Program
DESCRIPTION:The Cleveland Council on World Affairs is seeking internationally-minded families to virtually welcome one or two high-achieving high school students from Mexico! Students will engage in programming focused on Mayan and English language learning\, tech education\, financial literacy\, and empowering tomorrow’s leaders. \nThe students are participating in the Jóvenes en Acción (“Youth in Action”) exchange program that provides high school students from Mexico to engage with resources in the United States to build leadership\, communication\, English language\, and community engagement skills. Participants engage in synchronous and asynchronous workshops\, online activities\, meetings with community leaders\, and site visits. Participants are developing service projects they will plan to implement in their home communities. This program is a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State\, the Mexican government\, and the private sector. \nThe virtual home stay component will help familiarize students with culture and family life in the Cleveland area.  CCWA is looking for virtual host families who would like to welcome one or two students during two or three self-directed virtual interactions between October 13 – November 7\, 2021. Exact meeting dates and times are flexible and based on you and your student’s availability. There is a priority for families with at least one member of high school age. SUMMARY:Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Cleveland and Cuyahoga County are at the near center of the nation-wide crisis (Cuyahoga County alone has seen a 1\,000 percent increase in opioid deaths since 2007). In this Multi-Regional Project\, visitors from Afghanistan\, Cyprus\, Morocco\, Seychelles\, China\, and Russia will visit Cleveland to address the current opioid abuse crisis\, health promotion strategies\, demand reduction strategies\, and current trends in understanding addiction. Given how serious the issue is\, a wide-range of resource and partnership initiatives have emerged in the last few years to address addiction\, treatment\, and prevention. The Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force\, made up of over 50 multi-sector partners\, is a great example of collaboration to educate the community on this issue.
