This full-day interactive workshop will provide NASA global awareness educational resources and explore how they contribute to the understanding of soil and water and their societal applications.
Susan Kohler, NASA Education Specialist, will guide participants on how to use NASA data to develop or refine their theories about how water and soil impact the ability for a country to grow crops as the climate changes. Participants will also engage in inquiry-based activities to deepen understanding of the problem of growing crops in countries that are struggling to provide food for their people.
All activities correlate to the Ohio Core and Science standards. Next Generation Science Standards relating to the Earth’s climate systems will be connected to the NASA activities and resources. The activities integrate science, technology, engineering and math with English language arts skills.
The workshop is open to middle school and high school educators (grades 6-12). Contact hours for educator license renewal are available.

Participants should park in the Central Garage (across the street from the Student Center). The garage visitor entrance is available from the E. 21st Street entrance only.

In light of the ongoing evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our members, speakers, and staff remain a priority for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs. We ask that all Foreign Policy Forum attendees agree to maintain vigilance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by:
- Refraining from attending Foreign Policy Forum events if you:
– Have had recent contact with an infected person
– Are experiencing symptoms or feeling unwell - Maintaining a vaccination and booster schedule appropriate for your own risk level and health implications.
- Continuing to follow local health authorities’ guidelines in an evolving environment.
- Agreeing to comply with requests, such as masking, if necessary, made by CCWA staff to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
