Wednesday May 28, 2020 from 4:00-5:00 PM
Join CCWA as we host a virtual Foreign Policy Forum on how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the U.S.-Europe relationship. How can governments respond to support cooperation during this international crisis? It seems clear that the translatlantic relationship will focus on the COVID-19 pandemic for months to come, as governments grapple with the best responses to the virus and its political and economic impact. Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook, Executive Director of the Future of Diplomacy Project and the Project on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship at the Harvard Kennedy School, will discuss the realities of the pandemic’s impact on U.S.-Europe relations and the best practices that governments can adopt. Will the U.S.-Europe alliance see an expansion during this uncertain time?
Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook is the founding Executive Director of the Future of Diplomacy Project at the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), which examines the challenges to negotiation and statecraft in the 21st century. In January 2018, she was named Executive Director of the Project on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship. From 2011-2017, she served as the Executive Director of the India and South Asia Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at HKS. Her areas of expertise include E.U.-U.S. relations – including trade and security policy – and digital public policy in urban and national contexts. She is a returning guest, as she previously spoke for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs in March of 2019.
